Wood Tambour Door Construction
How are wooden tambour roll-up doors made?
Tambour doors consist of narrow hardwood slats (typically 3/4" wide × 3/8" thick) glued edge-to-edge onto a flexible canvas backing. The assembled panel rolls along CNC-machined aluminum tracks recessed into the cabinet carcass top and sides. Oak, Walnut, or Maple slats can be finish-matched to adjacent cabinetry. Motor-driven tambour systems are also available for motorized appliance garages. The track radius must be at least 3" to prevent the slats from binding.
