Inset Cabinet Fit Tolerances

Why does inset cabinetry cost more to build and install? +
Inset cabinetry requires extremely tight tolerances — typically a 1/16" to 3/32" reveal gap on all four sides of every door and drawer. Because wood expands and contracts seasonally (especially in Alberta's climate), the face frame must be built from dimensionally stable species and the reveals must be calibrated to the expected humidity range of the home. Inset hinges are also significantly more expensive than overlay hinges and require precise mortising.

Inset Door Construction FAQ

Cabinet Door Interfaces

What are 'Inset' cabinet doors? +
Inset doors are set into the cabinet frame rather than sitting on top of it. This creates a flush, furniture-grade look. Because wood expands and contracts, these require precision joinery and high-quality hinges to maintain tight, even gaps (reveals).

A premium construction where doors sit entirely inside the face frame for a furniture-grade look.

Inset vs. Overlay Construction

Cabinet Door Interfaces

What is the difference between Inset and Overlay cabinetry? +

A technical comparison of flush-mount (inset) versus surface-mount (overlay) door construction.

Vented Sink Base Construction

Moisture & Airflow Management

Why would a sink base need ventilation? +
For kitchens with high-moisture usage or under-sink RO (Reverse Osmosis) systems, we can integrate decorative mesh inserts or CNC-slotted patterns into the door to allow airflow and prevent mold growth in the carcass.

Cabinetry modified with airflow paths to prevent moisture buildup and accommodate AAV plumbing vents.
